That's really more of a network monitoring issue than an intrusion
detection issue. Try ntop ( http://www.ntop.org ) for a great network
montior, or check out Etherape ( http://etherape.sourceforge.net/ ) for
niftier real-time graphical representations of traffic streams. In my
experience, Etherape is much less stable and generates less useful
information over the long term, but carries more "Gee whiz!" value for
    executives.

On a slightly different (but relevant to network bandwidth) issue, what
would be the best way to monitor users who have installed Instant messaging
programs (AIM, Yahoo, MSN). I am trying to make a point to management that
not only are there serious security issues associated with Instant
    messaging
but it also affects productivity and uses excessive bandwidth. Any advice
    would be appreciated. Thank you.
