Focus-IDS Subscribers,

I have some more list administration to take care of today, and as usual, I'll
do my best to keep this post as brief as possible.

Unsolicited System Administrator Survey
---------------------------------------
As some of you may have noticed, a university student has recently harvested
some e-mail addresses of Focus-IDS subscribers in an attempt to conduct a survey
of System Administrators for his masters project. I would like to mention that
this survey is in NO way affiliated with Symantec or SecurityFocus, and that I
have contacted the author of these solicitations personally in an attempt to
prevent this from happening again. I'm under the opinion that list subscribers
should be free to post messages to this forum without needing to worry about
receiving unsolicited and completely off-topic mail such as this. If any
subscribers see something similar to this in the future, please feel free to
bring it to my attention.

I'll offer a quick thanks to Benjamin Tomhave for bringing this up with me, and
his assistance with this issue in general.

Auto-Responders and Vacation Messages
-------------------------------------
I personally post to this list on a semi-regular basis, and do my best to remove
subscribers with auto-responders or vacation messages that respond to list
traffic. However, because I don't post as often as the rest of you, I don't have
the ability to watch for these types of issues on a regular basis. If you run
into this issue while you are posting to Focus-IDS, drop me a quick message with
the associated auto-responder, and I'll do my best to take care of it in a
timely manner.

As usual, if you have *any* questions, comments, or issues with the
aforementioned information, please don't hesitate to drop me a line at
jmillersecurityfocus.com.

Regards,

J.
