how timely, i've been researching a new vpn sol. and cisco
is on my list. there is a white paper that they put out on
prepping for a cisco vpn that states the following:

"Furthermore, Cisco codeveloped the IPSec software resident in Microsoft
Windows 2000, thus ensuring interoperability with Microsoft's next
    generation
    operating system VPN client."

Does that mean what i think it means ?

also, netscreen and some others use ire client and i have a number of
    laptops running
NT 4.0 that need vpn over dial-in PPP accounts -- are you saying that Cisco
    Secure Client
or Netsceen client won't work in this case ?

The client also contains a bug that will prohibit NT4.0 laptops from
obtaining an ip address when shim is installed. ire has been VERY slow to
    address this issue.

I would suggest you look at www.ire.com I understand that these are the guys
who wrote the IPSEC client that Cisco distribute as their Secure VPN Client.

Works quite well, does certificate based authentication, and pre-shared
keys. I have used to both Cisco Routers and PIX firewalls very
    successfully.

    Cheers,
