I would almost prefer having it in a different domain, and I guess my
question was more of 'Will it work to have two separate domains?'
The other issue is that I would prefer that the machine not participate in
domain authentication/etc, and since it is currently a PDC, I was under the
impression that there is no way to configure it to be a standalone server
which just participates in the domain to receive authentication (without
reinstall).
I could reinstall the box, but that would be a bit tough, considering the
management doesnt want the mail to be unavailable for any decent period of
time.
Also, since the box will be in a slightly less secure network (a connection
from the outerworld goes through one firewall to a *nix mail relay through
another firewall to this box, if the mail relay is compromised, there will
be some allowed traffic that wouldnt be allowed to the rest of the network),
I would rather that the mail server, if at all possible, not be part of the
normal NT domain.
