    I wouldn't expect a scanner to try on Office 97 or later, since
    the encryption can't be broken so quickly. On earlier versions,
    however, it's trivial.

    There may be vendors have dropped this feature due to the
    takeup of more recent Office versions, concern about processing
    time, and/or concerns about 'privacy' (though how an automated
    scan for viruses can breach privacy is not immediately clear to
    me).

    It's no big deal: just a point of information, and probably
    becoming decreasingly true....
