I have received a few "what would you do?" emails about this guy, so here ya
go: I'll CC in the MS dudes so that they can do with it as they see fit.
1) The tool should be packaged as a .msi file so it can be very easily
deployed via Group Policy to any number of systems, and should have several
'silent' options:
a) It should have a silent installation option that removes ALL IIS
services; Web, SMTP, FTP and dependencies, MSDAC, Help, Samples, and all of
that stuff- not just the virtdirs, but the files themselves and associated
reg entries.
b) The tool should have a "test" option that writes a verbose log to track
what _would_ have happened (to ID possible issues with dependant services)
if the tool was run in silent, remove_all mode.
c) The tool should allow the inclusion of an .ini file that specifies
granular installation options that allow you to tell it what extensions to
script and what other services (SMTP,samples, msdac, etc) to include. This
would really help with auto-config's via GP.
2) In the GUI, my personal preference would be to reverse the logic- Don't
select what mappings or options to Disable, select what mappings or options
to Enable- This would also make the silent /.ini installs easier. If it
was command line based, it would further simplify what you would have to
flag. It would also be cool to be able to specify custom mappings to an
ISAPI dll (like when people want a .htm to parse like an .asp) in the .ini
file.
My .02 anyway...
