    Hi,

    Has anyone ever played with or is actually using SmoothWall 0.9.9 Firewall?
    http://www.smoothwall.org/

    I have read all four manuals available on the website including the FAQ
    (which is quite detailed with about 20 pages on how to not ask a stupid
    question). I setup a P166, 64MB Ram, 2GB Hd system with a "Green"
    (terminology used by the SmoothWall team) network card and configured the
    basic settings for the system. I am able to ping and tracert the box using
    the IP I assigned to it:

    <snip>
    C:\>ping 192.0.0.106

    Pinging 192.0.0.106 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 192.0.0.106: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=255
    Reply from 192.0.0.106: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=255
    Reply from 192.0.0.106: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=255
    Reply from 192.0.0.106: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=255

    Ping statistics for 192.0.0.106:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
    Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

    C:\>
    </snip>

    the box itself is not giving me any errors but I cannot access the Web Admin
    remotely from another computer on the network. The response I get from the
    IE6.0 browser is:

    <snip>
    ERROR
    The requested URL could not be retrieved
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    ----
    While trying to retrieve the URL: http://192.0.0.106:445/
    The following error was encountered:
    Access Denied.
    Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at
    this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is
    incorrect.

    </snip>

    I've tried both ports 445 (secure) and 81 (insecure) but still got the same response. Does it concern any permissions I could be missing? I have not applied the patches provided on the website, maybe I must do this first? But I am thinking the patches are not needed for basic functionality. Has anyone else come across this problem? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

    Thanks for any help!
