    Seamus,

You can ask NT4 to save printed documents under
the Printer Properties on the spool server.

In the Properties dialog box under the Scheduling tab
there is an option at the bottom 'Keep Documents
    After They Are Printed'.

I'm not sure how long they are kept or how much
drive space they will use before clogging up your
drive. Perhaps someone else here knows?

I would make sure that I was using a separate
partition for print spooling though instead of the
System partition which is the default. Otherwise if
the drive fills up will all of these saved printed jobs
    your server will 'stop'.
