Jim, Thanks for the mail.
Far from being a long shot it is a good idea.... However it was one of
the things I checked.
To be honest I have given up on this and I am manually patching this
box.... However if anyone comes across this problem and knows how to fix
it..... Please email me.
Regards
Michael Devlin

A long shot Michael, but does this machine have
a "Temp" directory specified in it's
environment variables?

Subject: Problem with auto unpacking Hotfixes (from 1 machine only)
I have scripted the complete installation of all Q hotfixes right across
the company. Whilst one of the biggest hurdles has been the lack of
uniformity between hotfixes (ie switches)..... I have managed to hack my
way round almost all of the problems.... However I have (as usual) *one*
more problem that I need to circumvent before the process is.... Er ....
Working fully.
There is one machine (quite a high profile server) that *INSISTS* on
asking me for the location to extract the hotfix files to.... This is
irrespective of the hotfix number and the switches used.... (NB: This
only applies to hotfix.exe, the IE hotfixes are working fine.).... This
even applies if use the '/?' switch
Is the default location written in an inf file or in the regsitry?
I know that the installer uses a random string when extracting the
contents ie c:\sdfuhiuh , could it be a problem with this? (it may be
worth noting that once the hotfix is unpacked it works fine)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....
Many thanks
Michael
