Hosted by InformationWeek and InRule Technology, this is a practical
session on automating business logic and decision-making using rules
technology. IT architects, application developers, business analysts and
process owners will learn about best practices for rules-oriented
architecture and application development, and how business rule engines
can provide substantial benefits in consistent decision making,
increased revenue and decreased operating costs. According to analyst
firm Celent Communications, "The potential benefits of a business rules
engine are substantial. It can create consistency in making specific,
complex, and high-value decisions. It provides a way to quickly change
how decisions are made."
Featured speakers include industry analyst and veteran application
development expert Dr. Adrian Bowles, and Larry Buettner, CIO of Wheels,
Inc. and a member of ComputerWorld's 2006 list of Premier 100 IT
Leaders.
Dr. Bowles will discuss the impact of rules technology on users' ability
to customize and evolve software. He will also discuss the growing
adoption of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) and the ways in which
rules can enable business agility. He will review how leading companies
are using rules to address compliance issues, citing examples from his
work as Regulatory Compliance Program Director for OMG.
InRule's Chief Product Officer, Rik Chomko, will discuss the use of
rules within an SOA framework and strategies for providing business
analysts with a business language authoring capability. This session
will include a brief discussion with Kim Smithson from Prosperiti,
provider of enterprise performance management and total reward systems
and an InRule OEM. Kim will demonstrate how her firm publishes rules as
web services and consumes web services from rules.
Larry Buettner will provide a real-world perspective into strategies for
developing rules-enabled applications, implementing SOA, and using
components like rules engines. He will discuss the effect these have
had on his organization's effort and time to market.
