PROBLEM SUMMARY
A potential security vulnerability may exist in the HP
Tru64 UNIX Internet Express wu-ftpd code that could result
in a local or remote exploit of a Denial of Service (DoS).

VERSIONS IMPACTED
HP Tru64 UNIX currently supported versions including
V5.1a and V5.1b running Internet Express versions 5.1
through 6.1.

Note: The affected versions of wu-ftpd were 2.5.0
through 2.6.2.

RESOLUTION
The wu-ftpd correction is scheduled to be available in
the following mainstream release of Internet Express :

Internet Express V6.2

Until the next release of Internet Express V6.2
containing the wu-ftpd correction is available ,
HP is issuing an Early Release Patch (ERP) kit.

To determine if this ERP kit is needed:

# su root
# /usr/local/bin/ftpd -V | grep Version
Version wu-2.6.2(1) Thu May 8 02:03:26 EDT 2003

If the version is 2.5.0 through 2.6.2 and the date
displayed in the version string is prior to
Thu Aug 19 02:19:31 EDT 2003,the Early Release Patch
kit is needed.
