More likely scenario:

They'd filter anything resembling CC #s but store all the
rest and then pronounce it safe and good, all in the
interest of the big gray mass of Joe Users who can't
type worth a dime and care a hell of a lot more about
ease of use rather than security.

(Yes, you guessed it, passwords and other sensitive
data still get stored.)
