This is question regarding an old thread.

        [rootmachine /root]# ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:aa:23:ce:3a:11
        SIOCSIFHWADDR: Device or resource busy

why does this happen? under which circumstances can I use ifconfig for
that purpose?
