    This is a bit speculative, but ... I've cat'd & more'd binary files on occasion,
    and as a result had commands that I didn't type get issued to the shell. I assume
    that what's happening is that certain control codes cause the VT100 (or
    whatever) to echo text as if it had been typed on the keyboard.
