    Since some people have posted that it isn't illegal, I looked further for
    my source. It was indeed "The Code Book" by Simon Singh, ISBN
    1-85702-889-9 (a very inspiring book btw).

    p. 318, "In America, it is necessary to obtain government license before
    buying such shielding material, which suggests that organisations such as
    the FBI regularly rely on tempest surveillance."

    I don't know about Simon's source, but I guess it's mentioned on one of
    the webbsites listed in "further reading".
