        WIN2KSECADVICE ADMINISTRATIVE NOTICE
                   1999 NOVEMBER 9
=======================================================

   1. FAQ Now Online
   2. That "Message Relevance" Thing
   3. HOWTO For Security

=======================================================

(1) FAQ NOW ONLINE
We have published the first rendition of the WIN2KSECADVICE FAQ on the Web
site. Please take time to read the new FAQ so you know exactly what this
list is all about. You'll learn what is appropriate content, how to
unsubscribe, how to temporarily disable list mail while you're away (read
that for sure!) and many other informational tidbits as well as answers to
frequently asked questions. (URL may be wrapped)

(2) THAT "MESSAGE RELEVANCE" THING
The list is barely a month old and we already receive a large number of
how-to type questions from many list members every day. Please do not send
basic how-to questions to this list unless they pertain directly to a known
security vulnerability. BE SURE TO READ THE WIN2KSECADVICE FAQ to learn
exactly what type of content is appropriate for the list. You may access
that area of the FAQ directly at the URL below. (URL may be wrapped)
http://www.ntsecurity.net/go/load.asp?iD=/security/win2ksecadvice-faq.asp#4

(3) HOWTO FOR SECURITY
With so many how-to questions being sent our way both on the list and at the
Web site, it's hard to ignore the fact that people want useable
security-related how-to information. In recognition of that ongoing need
we've created a venue for that type of exchange, in the form of a brand new
mailing list, quite simply called HOWTO.
In a nutshell, HOWTO mailing list discussions are centered around how-to
problems and solutions and subject matter can include a wide variety of
topics. Items of discussion may include, but are not limited to, system
monitoring, system probing, incident isolation and damage control,
countermeasures and diversionary tactics, user management issues, registry
access and management, security-related programming API issues, best
practices, new and improved security tools and personal assessments/reviews,
security training course announcements and reviews, quick tips and
reminders, handy batch files for various tasks and products, security
gotchas!, and more.
The scope of the HOWTO mailing list can be summarized very simply: if an
item is a security-related heads-up! or a how-to issue (whether a problem,
solution, or useful anecdote) regarding Windows-based networks or
applications, then it's relevant to the list, so please post it!
To sign up now, simply send the following command to
listservlistserv.ntsecurity.net:
    SUBSCRIBE HOWTO ANONYMOUS
After subscribing, send messages to the list at
howtolistserv.ntsecurity.net. But before you do, learn all about the new
HOWTO mailing list by reading the HOWTO FAQ!
